    The global biofuels industry is now on the verge of entering a new phase of development. According to a new report, global demand for biofuels for road transportation will grow from 32.4 billion gallons in 2013 to 51.1 billion by 2022.

    Renewable Energy Group broke ground Feb. 4 on a $13.2 million improvement project at its Newton, Iowa, biodiesel refinery. The upgrades include distillation. REG Newton refinanced its original loan to extend the term and help pay for the project.

    Randy Olson, executive director of the Iowa Biodiesel Board since its inception in 2007, has resigned to take a position with the U.S. Soybean Export Council. His efforts leave Iowa's biodiesel industry stronger, according to Mark Cobb, IBB chair.
  • BDI completes retrofit of 10 MMgy biodiesel plant in Greece

    A biodiesel plant remodeled by BDI-BioEnergy International AG in Volos, Greece, owned by Elin Biofuels S.A., was officially opened at a recent ceremony. The plant, equipped with distillation, can now process used cooking oil and animal fats.

  • Marathon to purchase Felda’s 60 MMgy Cincinnati biodiesel plant

    Marathon Petroleum Corp. has signed an agreement to purchase a facility in Cincinnati, Ohio, from Felda Iffco Sdn Bhd, Malaysia. The plant currently produces several products including biodiesel and glycerin. The deal is expected to close in April.
